The view from 14,000 ft up!
April 6, 2011Ok…so it was only 13,796 feet to be exact but you get the point. It was high. And absolutely beautiful.
My wife, Barbara, and I recently enjoyed a relaxing trip to the Big Island of Hawaii, and one of our must-do items was to get to the top of Mauna Kea volcano. It’s a dormant volcano that just happens to be the highest point in the state of Hawaii — significantly taller than Mount Everest I might add.
The summit of Mauna Kea hosts the world’s largest astronomical observatory, with telescopes operated by astronomers from eleven countries (They make for pretty cool photo subjects, too).
As you might imagine, the views are gorgeous and the sky is as crisp and clean as the air. We arrived in time to view the sun setting and what was already beautiful became breathtaking.
Enjoy!
