Lauren | Senior Portraits
June 13, 2011So Lauren decided to do senior pictures concurrent with her graduation from Buchanan HS. Actually her mother (a professional photographer) wanted to shoot her senior pics….well, we can all guess how that discussion went! Anyway, we had a great time with her last week. Here are a few from the shoot.

Photographer Workshop
June 7, 2011This past weekend we hosted a workshop for a group of photographers. They each brought in images for critique of lighting and composition. The images ran the gamut from still life to capturing people in motion. So after exchanging opinions on what everyone liked and/or thought could be improved, they all pulled out their weapon of choice (that would be a camera and lens) and practiced what they had just learned with our gorgeous model, Kristianna. When it was all over I had a chance to grab a few images of my own. Had a ton of fun…looking forward to doing another workshop soon.

Showing Your Images ~ Wall Displays Part I
April 26, 2011You’ve had your photo session, reviewed the images in your online gallery and you love what you see. Now what?! In this series, we’ll cover the what, why, how and where of the variety of options available to you for displaying your family’s memories.
.
WALL DISPLAY OPTIONS
With the variety of mediums, products and sizes available, choosing what best suits your needs can be overwhelming. We’ll take a look at several options, both traditional and contemporary, that can be used to showcase your photographic gems.
.
Prints in frames: The most traditional of options, this type of display gives you the most flexibility since the images in the frames can be changed as you choose. For images 11×14 and larger, we mount them on a 2mm white styrene board to protect them from warping when framed.
.
Standouts: A contemporary mounting option that doesn’t require a frame to hang on the wall, it is made by placing a photographic print on a lightweight foam banded with a black edge. The sleek edges and sides of the standout mount can create a modern wall display with the focus all on the image.
.
Float Wraps: A truly unique option to display images, float wraps are similar to standouts in that they add dimension by extending out from the wall. The difference is that they appear to be floating on the wall with the main focus on the image! They are created by wrapping the photographic print or canvas print around masonite to create a thin wrap.
.
..
Gallery Wraps: An elegant, frameless option for your favorite images. Every print is sprayed with a UV coating and meticulously stretched over a sturdy wooden frame to provide a seamless look. These wraps are available in fine art canvas or metallic and lustre photographic paper.

1st Birthday Fun!
April 24, 2011A typical rite of passage for a 1st birthday party is the devouring of the cake by the guest of honor. But as we see in this sequence from Ella’s 1st birthday, it’s not always the case that our little ones find that appetizing.
She may not have eaten much of it, but the cake soon became an art project…
and then made its way over the side of her chair.
After a quick picture with mom and dad, she cleaned herself off (okay, mom did it) and was back to making the rounds at her party!
Happy Birthday, beautiful Ella!

The view from 14,000 ft up!
April 6, 2011Ok…so it was only 13,796 feet to be exact but you get the point. It was high. And absolutely beautiful.
My wife, Barbara, and I recently enjoyed a relaxing trip to the Big Island of Hawaii, and one of our must-do items was to get to the top of Mauna Kea volcano. It’s a dormant volcano that just happens to be the highest point in the state of Hawaii — significantly taller than Mount Everest I might add.
The summit of Mauna Kea hosts the world’s largest astronomical observatory, with telescopes operated by astronomers from eleven countries (They make for pretty cool photo subjects, too).
As you might imagine, the views are gorgeous and the sky is as crisp and clean as the air. We arrived in time to view the sun setting and what was already beautiful became breathtaking.
Enjoy!
